Later, we shall visit the Hall of Fame built by Indian Army and Shanti Stupa (which provides panoramic views of the surrounding landscape). Overnight stay in Leh.

After breakfast, we drive towards Lamayuru(Approx.3½ hours). Enroute, we visit the famous Likir and Alchi monasteries.

Likir Monastery situated atop a windy cliff overlooking the beautiful village of Likir. It was founded in the 12th Century although the present construction dates back to the 18th century as the original one was destroyed by fire. In its courtyard is a yellow colored 3 storey high mammoth statue of the Buddha, which was constructed by a resident monk. The top floor has an impressive museum containing old thangkas & weapons used many centuries back. Alchi monastery is famous well-preserved 11th or 12th century wall paintings, all in an Indian style.

We continue our drive and finally reach the village of Lamayuru nestled deep in the remote mountains. The landscape here is also known as ‘Moonland’ due its startling resemblance to the Lunar landscapes. Overnight camping at Lamayuru.

In the morning, we visit the monastery to attend the morning prayer ceremony. We head back to our camps for breakfast. We begin our adventure and start off towards our destination, Wanla.  After trekking through a gentle trail, we arrive at the small pass of PrinkitLa (3750 m). We start heading down to the village of Shilla & trek the last 3 km to Wanla (3250 m), a small village located at the confluence of two streams in a side valley between Khaltse and Lamayuru.  Here we set up our camps for the night and explore the Wanla Buddhist temple built in thelate 13th century. Overnight camping at Wanla.

Running parallel to the Yapola river, you follow a dusty road passing through amazing apricot orchards towards the small village of Phenjilla (3410 m) & the scattered village of Uri. We will then walk through a narrow gorge until we reach a traditional Rangthak (flour mill) at the far end of the village. The trail will then cut through the village of Hinju (3720 m). We will camp here for the overnight. Dinner and overnight in tents.

Today we start walking from the encampment along the trail & ascend the ridge below Kongskil La. If lucky we will get glimpses of some wild life. We will then climb gradually until we reach Kongskil La (4950 m), where we will be surrounded by dizzying views of the Karakoram & Stok ranges.

The descent down the trail is quite steep with loose moraine causing the difficulty, so we need to be careful and slow during the same. The trail then follows the left side of valley floor, passing a yak herders’ hut (4500 m), before we reach our campsite at Sumda Doksa (4430 m). This valley is occupied mainly by the villagers of Sumda Chenmo. Overnight Camping at Sumda Doksa.

After breakfast, we start our trek towards Dung Dung La Base. A short walk & a few river crossings takes us to the village of Sumda Chenmo. From there we head towards the left side of the valley, which provides a beautiful view of the village with its lush greenery. Further the trail cuts through the valley’s wild rose bushes & leads us to another river crossing (this stream originates from the high snow-capped peaks of Photoksar (5685 m). As we make a steep challenging ascent over Lanak, we get to see various wild flowers like Edelweiss. We finally reach the campsite at the Base of Dung Dung Chan La (4430 m). The view from our campsite here is spectacular.

Today we will begin the day with a straight climb to Dung Dung Chan La (4820 m), which offers beautiful view of the Stok Range in the east & the Zanskar Range in the south. From the Pass, the trail gradually descends down a ridge towards the valley before reaching the village of Chilling (3550 m).

The village of Chilling is famous throughout Ladakh for its traditional metal craft which is the pride of every Ladakhi kitchen. The beautiful items -ladles, spoons, prayer wheel, teapots, etc. – elaborated by Chilling craftsmen result from an ancestral knowledge inherited from Nepal.  It is also the only village in Ladakh that has provided metalwork such as copper, bronze, tin, silver & iron to the Leh market through the centuries.  Overnight camp at Chilling .End of Trek

Rafting from Chilling to Nimo in Zanskar river (Level 3 plus) Duration:  approx 2 1/2 Hours. This is the most cherished rafting option in Ladakh. After hot lunch at Nimo, we drive to Leh. Overnight stay in Leh.

After breakfast, we shall drive to Leh Airport for your onward journey with memories of a Lifetime!
